Diameters 2½″–4″: tensile strength min 115 ksi (793 MPa), yield strength min 95 ksi (655 MPa), elongation min 16 %.
Maximum continuous service temperature for the base metal is 450 °C. For applications below –29 °C, specify ASTM A320 L7. Heat-number traceability and grade symbol “B7” are stamped on one end of every stud ⅜″ and larger.
PTFE Coating Properties
The PTFE coating system delivers a dry-film thickness of 5–76 µm, providing an exceptionally low coefficient of friction of 0.09 (K‑factor approximately 0.14 per ASTM D5648). This prevents thread galling, reduces installation torque, and enables clean disassembly after extended service. In neutral salt spray (ASTM B‑117), the coating resists red rust for over 3900 hours. Service temperature of the coating ranges from –50 °C to +210 °C (260 °C for select formulations). Continuous full‑length threading in UN/UNC pitch per ASME B1.1, Class 2A fit. For diameters above 1″ in ASME B16.5 flanges, the standard thread is 8UN. Metric threads M6–M125 are also produced. Dimensional conformity to ASME B18.31.2 (continuous thread studs). The stud must be assembled with ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts (quenched and tempered, hardness 248–352 HB). Substituting a lower‑grade nut compromises joint capacity.
