Product Introduction
CE-marked high-strength structural bolting assemblies manufactured to EN 14399-3:2015, System HR (Hexagon bolt and nut assemblies). Designed for preloaded joints in steel structures to EN 1993-1-8 (Eurocode 3). Each assembly comprises a property class 10.9 hexagon head bolt with large widths across flats, a property class 10 hexagon nut (style 1 normal height per EN ISO 4032), and a through-hardened washer to EN 14399-6 placed under the nut only. Thread sizes M12 to M36. Property classes 8.8/8, 8.8/10, and 10.9/10.
Material & Mechanical Properties
Bolt: EN ISO 898-1 property class 10.9, minimum tensile strength 1000 MPa, minimum yield strength 900 MPa. Nut: EN ISO 898-2 property class 10, proof load stress 1160 MPa. The system permits preload of at least 0.7 × fub × As. Ductility is achieved predominantly by plastic elongation of the bolt; the longer thread length distributes induced strain along the shank. Under severe overtightening, failure occurs as detectable bolt fracture.
Geometry & Thread
Bolt thread length per ISO 888, longer than standard bolts, preventing strain localisation. Nut is style 1 normal height per EN ISO 4032. Washer is through-hardened, Vickers hardness 300–370 HV, used under the nut only. For hot-dip galvanized versions, threads are manufactured before coating to tolerance class 6az per ISO 965-5; after galvanizing (40–80 μm zinc), external threads mate with internal thread 6H. Nuts have 6H or 6AZ internal threads. Hot-dip galvanizing of class 10.9 bolts is avoided where hydrogen embrittlement is a concern.
Certification & Marking
CE marking under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) via harmonised standard hEN 14399-1. Bolt head permanently marked with “HR”, property class, and manufacturer’s identification mark. All components (bolt, nut, washer) are supplied as a matched set from a single manufacturer. Batch-specific inspection certificate 3.1 per EN 10204 is provided. HR and HV system components are not interchangeable; mixing on the same project is not recommended.
Application Suitability
Steel building frames, bridges, industrial plants, and infrastructure projects where preloaded connections are specified for slip-resistant, fatigue-resistant, or vibration-resistant performance. Installation and execution to EN 1090-2.
